Info:Konzessioniert 1843 als Rutland & Burlington RR, deren Name 1867 sich wie oben verkürzte. Die Bahn bediente im wesentlichen den Staat Vermont, reichte aber sowohl an ihrem südlichsten wie auch am nördlichsten Ende bis in den Staat New York. 1871-96 an die Central Vermont verpachtet (Pacht endete durch deren Konkurs), 1904-11 gab die New York Central ein Intermezzo als Großaktionär. Eine technische Meisterleistung war 1901 die Kreuzung des Lake Champlain, bei der Inseln im See durch Dämme und Brücken verbunden wurden. Damit konnte man unabhängig von der Vermont Central jetzt auch Kanada erreichen. Fortan ließ die Bahn täglich den „Green Mountain Flyer“ von New York nach Montreal verkehren. In der Spitze 400 Meilen Streckenlänge umfassend war die Bahn vor allem für ihre langen Milch-Züge bekannt.1938 das erste Mal pleite, 1950 erneut als „Railway“ reorganisiert. Eine Serie von Streiks erschütterte die Bahn, zuletzt 1961, als die Beschäftigten (die nicht umziehen wollten) gegen die Verlegung der Leitzentrale von Rutland nach Burlington kämpften. 1963 war die Bahn daraufhin am Ende und wurde stillgelegt. Fast das ganze Streckennetz kaufte dann der Staat Vermont. Der nördliche Abschnitt Ogdensburg-Norwood wird bis heute von der Vermont Ry. betrieben, der Rest wird für diverse Trails genutzt.
