Die Strecke von der 9th und Green Street nach Germantown ging 1832 in Betrieb. Anfangs Pferdebahnbetrieb, im Nov. 1832 lieferte Matthias W. Baldwin (1795-1866), einer der berühmtesten Lokomotivhersteller der Welt, dann die Dampflok “Old Ironsides”. 1870 wurde die Bahn für 999 Jahre an die Philadelphia & Reading RR verpachtet. Anschließend ungewöhnlicher Weise, ohne jemals reorganisiert zu werden, bis Ende des 20.
