Mount Auburn war der erste landschaftsarchitektonisch gestaltete Friedhof in den USA. Er beeinflusste maßgeblich die Gestaltung der öffentlichen Parkanlagen. Das auch heute noch als Friedhof betriebene Gelände bietet ferner ein Arboretum, ein Museum für Skulpturen und es ist eine Zufluchtsstätte für die Tier- und Pflanzenwelt. Das Friedhofsgelände ist jeden Tag von 8.00-17.00 Uhr, im Sommer bis 19.00 Uhr geöffnet. Hier fanden viele Berühmtheiten ihre letzte Ruhestätte, z.B. Mary Baker Eddy, Isabella Stewart Gardner, Buckminster Fuller, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Winslow Homer, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow und B.F.
