Mit dem Bau dieser Eisenbahn nach Beechwood (Mound Jct.) an der Hauptstrecke der Illinois Central ging in Mound City ein explosionsartiger Bevölkerungszuwachs einher: Ganze 6 Leute lebten dort 1856, über 2.500 waren es 1858!
