place: | Delaware | | Picture: |  | | Info: | 1940 baute R. S. "Pop" Johnson in seiner kleinen Werkstatt in Fort Worth, Texas eine kleine Zweisitzer-Maschine, die er "The Swift" nannte. Auf der Suche nach Finanziers wandte er sich an John Kennedy, dem Präsidenten und Gründer der Globe Aircraft Co., die während des 2. Weltkrieges einen äußerst lukrativen Vertrag zur Produktion der Beech AT10 besaß. Kennedy witterte ein gutes Nachkriegs-Geschäft und band Johnson vertraglich an Globe Aircraft. Die Swift wurde bis zur Serienreife weiterentwickelt und in einer großen Werbekampagne vorgestellt. Der Erfolg ließ nicht lange auf sich warten: Es kamen so viele Aufträge, dass diese von der Globe Aircraft kaum bewältigt werden konnten. Alein innerhalb des ersten halben Jahres wurden 833 Swifts gebaut.
