Die Strecke wurde schrittweise 1868-71 in Betrieb genommen. Genutzt vornehmlich für Kohletransporte, wie auch die Liste des Fuhrparks zeigt: 14 Lokomotiven, 9 Personenwagen und über 400 Güterwagen. Im Jahre 1876 wurden 178.402 Fahrgäste befördert und über 1/2 Mio. Tonnen Güter transportiert.
