(Gesco) in Berlin die ersten Kohlenstofffasern, 1896 wird im schlesischen Ratibor die “Planiawerke AG für Kohlefabrikation” gegründet. Beide Unternehmen fusionieren 1928 zur “Siemens Planiawerke AG für Kohlefabrikation”, 1949 kommt durch Fusion die Chemische Fabrik Griesheim hinzu, die seit 1892 Kohlenstoffanoden produzierte. 1953/67 als SIGRI Elektrographit GmbH der HOECHST AG angegliedert. 1992 Fusion der deutschen SIGRI mit der US-amerikanischen Great Lakes Carbon Co. zur SGL CARBON AG. Herstellung von Graphitelektroden für die Stahlindustrie sowie von Kohlenstoffelektroden, von Graphit-Spezialprodukten für die Halbleiter-, Automobil- und Batterieindustrie sowie von Carbonfasern und Verbundwerkstoffen vor allem für die Luft- und Raumfahrtindustrie. Heute der größte Graphit- und Kohlenstoffproduzent der Welt.
