Die Gesellschaft besaß am Anfang die gesamte De Beers Mine, drei Viertel der Kimberley MIne und kontrollierte die Bultfontein und Dutoitspan Minen. Cecil Rhodes, Barney Barnato, F.S. Philipson-Stow und Alfred Beit waren ursprünglich die Hauptanteilseigner. 1890 wurde das London Diamond Syndicate gegründet, welches die gesamte Produktion von De Beers aufkaufte. Dieses Syndikat war die Grundlage für die von Ernest Oppenheimer (1880-1957, geboren in Friedberg/Hessen, ab 1912 Bürgermeister von Kimberley, ab 1920 Präsident von De Beers) gegründete Diamond Corporation, die später zur “Central Selling Organisation” wurde.
