Das Westport Sanitarium wurde 1891 von Dr. Frederick D. Ruland eröffnet. Zuvor gehörte das 1853 erbaute Luxus-Anwesen an der Ecke Post Road East und Compo Road North dem Senator Richard Henry Winslow.
