Die Kronheimers waren eine Kaufmannsfamilie aus Binswangen in Bayern. Die Aktiengesellschaft selbst entstand 1916, unter Mithilfe von Wladmir Konchine, ehemaliger Direktor der Staatsbank des Russischen Reiches und handelte überwiegend mit Kaffee (Marke "Café Labrador"). Dieser wurde aus Brasilien und den Westindischen Inseln importiert, später auch aus Madagaskar. In Paris besaß die Gesellschaft auch eine große Filiale für Zucker.
