Mehr als ein halbes Jahrhundert lang diente das Auditorium in der Nähe des Bahnhofs (Roanoke war ein wichtiger Eisenbahnknoten der Southern Ry.) an der Ecke Commonwealth Ave. und Wells Ave. als Mittelpunkt des kulturellen Lebens der Stadt. Aber auch großen Boxwettkämpfen bot das Auditorium Platz, und Elvis Presley hatte hier (erstmals am 18.5.1955) einige große Auftritte. Später übernahm die „American Legion“ den Betrieb des Auditoriums.
