WK diente er dem SA-Chef Ernst Röhm als Pressesekretär und beschaffte in dieser Position, vor allem mit Rückendeckung der deutschen (DEA-Chef Deterding) und britischen Ölindustrie, weltweit die Finanzmittel, mit denen Röhm die Stellung von Hitler in der NSdAP unterminieren wollte. Doch der von der Ölindustrie gesetzte Zeitplan erwies sich als nicht einhaltbar, der “Röhm-Putsch” am 30.6.1934 schlug fehl.
