Nach Fertigstellung 1870 wurde die Bahn an die St. Louis, Alton & Rock Island verkauft, am Ende entstand so die 292 Meilen lange Strecke Sterlin-East St. Louis, Ill. Später dann von der St. Louis, Rock Island & Chicago RR übernommen worden, die 1899 in die Chicago, Burlington & Quincy hineinfusioniert wurde. Diese fusionierte 1970 mit der Northern Pacific und der Great Northern zur Burlington Northern, die sich wiederum 1996 mit der Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe zur BNSF zusammenschloß.
