Damit war für die A.T.&S.F.RR. der Weg zur Pazifikküste gebahnt. Das Projekt wurde unter größter Geheimhaltung und in atemberaubender Geschwindigkeit durchgezogen, ehe die Hauptkonkurrenten Denver & Rio Grande RR und Southern Pacific Ry. der A.T.&S.F.RR. die Tour vermasseln konnten.
