Nach Holland’s Tod 1914 als “Submarine Boat Corporation” reorganisiert. Als der Eintritt der USA in den 1. Weltkrieg 1917 immer wahrscheinlicher wurde, erwarb die Firma in der Newark Bay eine große Werft und stellte die Produktion auf Frachtschiffe um. Das erwies sich als Fehler, doch ehe man die U-Boot-Produktion wieder in Gang bringen konnte, war der Krieg zuende, was die Firma an den Rand des Bankrotts brachte.
