Maschinenbaufirma produzierte Lokomotiven, Eisenbahnwaggons, Pumpen, Kessel, Heizungen. 1937 wurde das Unternehmen mit der Svenska Flygmotor AB zum Bau von Militärflugzeugen zusammengeschlossen. Zuerst wurden nur Lizenzprodukte hergestellt, u.a. das deutsche Bombenflugzeug JU 86A und die amerikanische NA-16. 1940 begann man mit der Produktion in Trollhättan. Im selben Jahr entstand der erste eigene Entwurf von Saab, der zweisitzige Sturzkampfbomber Saab 17.
