Ab dem mexikanisch-amerikanischen Krieg spezialisierte man sich auf Metallteile für Gewehre. 1859 teilten Whitakers zwei Söhne die Firma unter sich auf, George P. Whitaker bekam dabei die Havre Iron Co. in Havre de Grace und verkaufte sie 1862 an die McCullough Iron Co., die das Eisenwerk 1873 an Abram P.
