place: | New York | | Picture: |  | | Info: | Die NYC&HR RR ist entstanden 1869 durch Fusion der New York Central RR mit der Hudson River RR, Keimzelle war die wirtschaftlich ungemein bedeutende 440 Meilen lange Hauptbahn von New York stromaufwärts am Hudson River nach Buffalo. Die Gesellschaft wurde zum Mittelpunkt der Eisenbahninteressen des legendären “Commodore” Cornelius Vanderbilt und kontrollierte um 1900 bereits ein über 3.000 Meilen langes Netz. Schließlich fusionierte sie mit der Pennsylvania RR zur PennCentral, dem mächtigsten Eisenbahnsystem der Ostküste. | | Specials: | Alle mit Originalunterschrift des Eisenbahnkönigs Chauncey M. Depew. Chauncey Mitchell Depew (1834-1928) machte zunächst als Rechtsanwalt und Politiker Karriere. Gerade auf dem Weg, Botschafter der USA in Japan zu werden, wurde er von “Commodore” Vanderbilt als Chef-Justitiar aller seiner Eisenbahnen engagiert. Er brachte es später bis zum President der mächtigen New York Central Railroad.
