Die Hauptstrecke zwischen West Memphis, Ark. und West-Oklahoma ging 1900 in Betrieb. 1901 wurde als Tochtergesellschaft die Choctaw, Oklahoma & Texas RR gegründet um die Bahn nach Westen in den Texas panhandle weiterzubauen; 1902 war die Bahn bereits bis Amarillo gekommen. 1902 kam die C.O.&G.R.R. unter die Kontrolle der Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific RR. Für diese Bahn blieb Memphis-Amarillo später eine der wichtigsten Strecken, über die so lengendäre Züge wie 1940-64 der „Choctaw Rocket“ fuhren.
