Mit der Unterzeichnung eines Technologieabkommens mit Mitsubishi Motors im Jahr 1970 stieg CMC in die Nutzfahrzeug-, später auch die Automobilproduktion ein und eröffnete 1973 ihre erste Fabrik in Yangmei. Heute wird in drei Werken produziert. Seit 1991 an der Taiwan Stock Exchange börsennotiert. Ab 1995 Aktivitäten auf dem Festland in Form von massiven Investitionen in die “South East Motor Corporation”.
