Um an dieses Holz heranzukommen wurde 1911 die Meridian & Memphis Ry. gegründet. Die von Meridian Miss. ausgehende Strecke sollte ursprünglich 100 Meilen bis Winona, Miss. führen und dort an die Illinois Central anschließen.
