Um so ungewöhnlicher ist dieses Bahnprojekt, wo man schon Anfang der 1870er Jahre eine 200 Meilen lange Bahn von Millen, Ga. nach Turtle Harbor und Key West, Fla. plante. Sie sollte dem Kissimmee River bis zum Lake Okeechobee folgen, sich dann nach Osten zur Küste wenden und schließlich über das spätere Miami die Florida Keys erreichen. Insofern ist die Bahn der geistige Vorläufer der grandiosen Florida East Coast Ry. von Henry Flagler. Doch ohne das Vermögen eines Henry Flagler war das Projekt zum Scheitern verurteilt: Gerade einmal 6 Meilen an die Florida Central RR westlich von Jacksonville anschließende Strecke waren fertig, als der Bahn das Geld ausging und sie sang- und klanglos unterging. | | Specials: | Ein beinahe schon globales Unternehmen: Die Bahn war in Florida, die Financiers in New York, und der Aktionär kam aus San Francisco. | | Availability: | Unentwertet.
