Sogleich suchten hier kalifornische Investoren Geld zu machen, indem sie im klimatisch begünstigten Kona County auf der Westseite der Hauptinsel eine Kaffeeplantage und eine Eisenbahn projektierten. Der erste Versuch endete aber desaströs, und erst ein zweiter Anlauf 1906 gelang wenigstens etwas besser. Heute ist der Kona-Kaffee weltberühmt. Schließlich entstand auf den Inseln Hawaii, Maui und Oahu am Ende doch noch ein etwa 90 km langes Eisenbahnnetz. Kona (heute auch: Kailua) ist übrigens Austragungsort des Ironman Hawaii, des berühmtesten Triathlon der Welt. | | Specials: | Treuhänder der Anleihe war die Germania Trust Co. in San Francisco.
