Die Weltgeltung des Unternehemns begründete die 1872 von ihm erfundene "Ulmer Leiter". 1911 Umwandlung in eine AG. Zuletzt wurden Feuerwehr- und Militärgeräte, Motoren, Lastkraftwagen, Kraftomnibusse und Fahrzeuge aller Art (auch Kraftwagen und Eisenbahnwagen) hergestellt. 1935 schloß sich Magirus an Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz an, 1975 legten KHD und FIAT ihre Nutzfahrzeug-Aktivitäten in der IVECO zusammen.
