Knapp 2/3 dieser Strecke (168 Meilen) waren 1872 fertig und in Betrieb, dann ging der Ges. das Geld aus. Die 1873 gegründete Auffanggesellschaft Carolina Central Railway schaffte es zwar noch, die Bahn fertig zu bauen, doch dann ging auch ihr die Puste aus: 1876 wieder pleite, 1880 erneut reorganisiert als Carolina Central Railroad. 1881 erlangte die Seaboard & Roanoke RR über die von ihr beherrschte Raleigh & Gaston RR die Kontrolle, im Endeffekt damit Teil des Systems der Seaboard Air-Line gworden. | | Specials: | Großes Querformat, blaugrün/schwarzer Stahlstich.
