Mit Schlieung der Lücke bei Lunenburg, N.H. ging Ende 1875 die ganze 370 km lange Strecke von Portland, Me. bis Swanton, Vt. in Betrieb. Der Abschnitt Lunenburg, N.H. nach Swanton, Vt. wurde wegen finanzieller Probleme 1880 in die St. Johnsbury & Lake Champlain RR ausgegliedert, der Rest 1886 als Portland & Ogdensburg Railway reorganisiert. Seit 1888 an die Boston & Maine verpachtet, die sich diese Bahn 1943 komplett eingliederte. Von der Pan Am Ry. und der New Hampshire Central RR werden heute nur noch Reste der Strecke regelmäßig befahren.
