Sie lösten in der bis dahin verschlafenen Gegend eine Bonanza aus, die mit jedem Goldrausch mithalten konnte. Phosphate sind die Salze der Phosphorsäure, namentlich das Kalziumphosphat. Als dreibasisch-phosphorsaurer Kalk bildet es einen Hauptbestandteil menschlicher und tierischer Knochen und Zähne.
