Um 1910 begann die Erschließung des Kreismoores, nachdem der 1880-87 erbaute Ems-Jade-Kanal den Torftransport per Schiff nach Emden und Wilhelmshaven ermöglichte, ebenso per Pferdefuhrwerk die 1910 erbaute erste feste Straße von Wrisse nach Felde.
