Die im Okt. 1919 veröffentlichten Grundsätze der DVP betonten den Gedanken der nationaler Machtstaatspolitik und zielten auf die Wiederherstellung des Kaisertums. Von der Schwerindustrie finanziell massiv unterstützt, stand die DVP in scharfer Konkurrenz vor allem zur SPD.
