Der IISC gehörten Eisenerzfelder und Phosphatminen im Singbhum District, Kohlebergwerke bei Kulti, Noonodih und Jitpur sowie Hochofenwerke und Kokereien in Kulti und Burnpur. 1936 (überwiegend anleihefinanziert) Übernahme der Bengal Iron Co., deren Eisenwerk im Dschungel von Kulti 1870 den Anfang der indischen Montanindustrie überhaupt markierte. 1953 Übernahme der Steel Corporation of Bengal, deren Werk 1939 in Betrieb gegangen war.
