Zur Gruppe gehören vor allem die Marktkauf-Märkte und die Optiker-Kette Krane. 1983 begann die Kooperation mit der EDEKA-Gruppe. 1986 an die Börse gegangen. 1992 übernahm EDEKA 33 % des Kapitals der börsennotierten Ges. und erhöhte in den Folgejahren seine Beteiligungsquote, bis 2005 die letzten freien Aktionäre durch einen Squeeze-out herausgedrängt wurden. 2006 erfolgte bei allen Unternehmensbestandteilen eine Namensänderung zu “Marktkauf”.
