Name wie oben seit 1928 ([nitiator dieser letzten Reorganisation war Samuel Insull (1859-1938, ein bekannter Investor)]. Zweck der Gesellschaft war der Betrieb von Vorortbahnen in die südlichen Vorstädte, die sich am Ufer des Michigansees entlangziehen, zunächst ausschließlich für den Personentransport, ab 1990 nur noch Frachttransporte (überwiegend Kohle und Stahlprodukte).
