Allen für eine kurze Fahrt mit einem New Yorker Taxi 5 Dollar zahlen mußte, beschloß er ein eigenes Taxiunternehmen zu gründen. Mit englischem und französischem Kapital gründete er am 12.6.1907 in London die New York Motor Cab Co. und importierte aus Frankreich 65 benzinbetriebene Autos, die er gelb anmalen ließ und als Taxis auf den Straßen von New York fahren ließ. Bis 1908 wuchs sein Fuhrpark bis auf 700 Taxis.
