Zuvor hatten die Initiatoren Captain Sprott Balcom und Captain William Grant mit ihren Schiffen Pelzrobben gejagt. Nachdem diese fast ausgerottet waren, wandte man sich dem Walfang zu. Auf Inselgruppen vor der Küste von British Columbia wurden fünf feste Walfangstationen errichtet. Ein drastischer Rückgang der Fänge im Jahr 1914 führte 1915 zum Konkurs dieser Gesellschaft. Die Fangstationen und Walfangschiffe kaufte der Amerikaner William P. Schupp, dem bereits zwei Walfangstationen vor der Küste von Alaska und eine im Staat Washington gehörten.
