place: | London | | Picture: |  | | Number: | 195 | | Info: | Gegründet 1852, ausgestattet mit einem Vertrag, Post von London über Plymouth nach Madeira, Teneriffa und der afrikanischen Westküste zu befördern. 1856 wurde Liverpool Heimathafen, gleichzeitig Aufnahme eines Liniendienstes nach Marokko. 1894 Aufnahme des Kanada-Dienstes durch Übernahme einer Destination der Dominion Line sowie der Beaver Line. 1910 nach dem Tod des Firmenchefs an Lord Kylsant und Lord Pirrie verkauft und Teil von Elder, Dempster & Co. geworden. 1931 in der Weltwirtschaftskrise brach das Reederei-Imperium von Lord Kylsant zusammen, wurde aber mit Regierungshilfe wieder auf die Beine gestellt. 1965 kam Elder Dempster zur Ocean Steam Ship Co.
