Info:Georg Michael Pfaff begann 1862 in seiner Instrumentenmacher-Werkstatt in Kaiserslautern Nähmaschinen herzustellen. Bereits 1872 wurden 1.000 Nähmaschinen im Jahr hergestellt (100 Jahre später war das die Produktion eines einzigen Tages). 1926 Umwandlung in eine AG. 1957 erwarb Pfaff die Aktienmehrheit des Konkurrenten Gritzner-Kayser AG in Karlsruhe-Durlach, seit 1961 war dieses Werk an Pfaff als zweite Produktionsstätte verpachtet. Pfaff war nun die größte Nähmaschinenfabrik in Europa. Daneben gehörten Kunststoff- und Textilschweißmaschinen, Bügelmaschinen sowie Grau- und Leichtmetallguß zum Fertigungsprogramm. Mehrheitsaktionär wurde in den 90er Jahren die Semi-Tech aus Hongkong, der auch die Singer Company als größter Nähmaschinenhersteller der USA gehörte. Doch die strukturellen Probleme des Marktes und des Standortes Deutschland waren auch durch das Zusammengehen der größten Nähmaschinenhersteller der Welt nicht mehr zu lösen: 1998 ging Pfaff in die Insolvenz. Das Haushaltsgeräteprogramm übernahm dann der schwedische Konkurrent Husqvarna/Viking (VSM Group), die industrielle Näh- und Schweißmaschinentechnik der PFAFF Industrie Maschinen AG übernahm 2002 einer der bis dahin größten Vertriebspartner, die Fa. Bianchi Marè aus Mailand.
