Info:Taiwan, seit 1680 zu China gehörend, wurde nach dem chinesisch-japanischen Krieg 1894/95 an Japan abgetreten. 1950 wurde auf Taiwan vom Nationalistenführer Tschiang Kaischek, der sich dorthin vor den Truppen des Kommunisten Mao flüchtete, die Nationale Republik China ausgerufen. Die „Taipower“ wurde 1919 von den japanischen Besatzern gegründet, um Taiwan mit Strom zu versorgen. 3.000 japanische Ingenieure arbeiteten am Aufbau des Unternehmens. Interessant ist, daß die Taipower trotz aller politischen Differenzen bis heute auch einige vorgelagerte Inseln versorgt, die zur Volksrepublik China gehören. 1994 wurde das Monopol dieses staatlichen Unternehmens aufgebrochen, seitdem dürfen unabhängige Energieerzeuger bis zu 20 % des in Taiwan benötigten Stroms produzieren.
