In den 20er Jahren besaß Ford in den USA einen Marktanteil von 50 % und expandierte kräftig in’s Ausland: 1925 wurde in Berlin die Ford Motor Company AG gegründet. Die Fabrik in Berlin-Plötzensee war zunächst ein reines Montagewerk. 1931 ging das noch heute bestehende Werk in Köln in Betrieb, dessen Grundstein Henry Ford persönlich gelegt hatte. 1939 wurde der heutige Firmenname angenommen: Ford-Werke AG. Nennenswerte Kriegsschäden (wen wundert’s?) erlitten ausgerechnet die Ford-Werke natürlich nicht, so daß bereits am 8.5.1945 die Produktion wieder aufgenommen werden konnte. Schon 1953 wurden vor allem dank des legendären Taunus 12 M alle früheren Produktionsrekorde eingestellt.
